Moldavite 1.2 g

Moldavite is a rare and captivating green tektite formed from a meteorite impact approximately 15 million years ago. Originating primarily in the region of Bohemia, this natural glass is directly linked to the massive Nördlinger Ries Crater event in present-day Germany. When the meteorite struck Earth, intense heat and pressure fused terrestrial rock with extraterrestrial material, ejecting molten debris that cooled rapidly as it fell—forming Moldavite’s signature olive-green, etched, and sculptural appearance.

Geologically, Moldavite is classified as a tektite, composed primarily of silicon dioxide with trace elements such as aluminum and iron. Its amorphous (non-crystalline) structure and unique translucency distinguish it from volcanic glass like obsidian. Authentic specimens often feature intricate surface textures, including natural pitting and “sculpted” formations caused by atmospheric cooling and erosion over millions of years. Its rarity and limited geographic origin make genuine Moldavite highly sought after by collectors and investors alike.

Historically, Moldavite has been revered since ancient times. Archaeological evidence suggests it was used in tools and talismans by early humans in Central Europe. Later folklore associated it with divine origins—believed to be a “stone fallen from the sky.” It has even been linked symbolically to the legendary Holy Grail in European myth, enhancing its mystique and desirability.
